When we received the demand, one of the first things we thought about was: let’s get away of the classic typology of the exposed house, so massively used in the condominiums of the region – with from top to bottom glazing and a two-story high ceiling.
The design of a newly built home in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin has used furniture designed and made by Loft Kolasinski: a bed, a chaise longue, a table, a bench and hangers. The Layer residence is a large family house located in regional, coastal Victoria. The site is close to the beach yet doesn’t have any views to embrace. The site is largely sloping from the north to the south and is made up of layers of limestone shelves and underground caves.
This 2,500 square foot house responds to the clients’ desire for a contemporary retreat, low maintenance home that is open and light-filled. Fronting Smith Cove, a secluded deep water anchorage ideal for boating and kayaking, the site is densely wooded with filtered ocean views to the north.
This project is a renovation and extension to a 12′ wide rowhouse in Brooklyn, New York. BFDO completely gutted the existing four story brick building and added a two story extension.
