Designed by Nildo José and his studio NJ+, DR Residence is a refined celebration of Brazilian design, natural light, and craftsmanship. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery, the home blurs the boundaries between architecture, interior design, and landscape, creating a living environment that feels organic, welcoming, and timeless.
A Dialogue Between Nature and Architecture
Nestled within a 1,003 m² property, DR Residence embraces its surroundings through abundant vegetation that weaves throughout the home. Gardens are not confined to the exterior—they spill into the interior, softening transitions and framing views from every angle. The architecture opens generously to the outdoors, allowing nature to act as both a decorative element and a vital participant in daily life.
Inside, warm tones of Freijó wood set the mood, enveloping spaces in comfort and sophistication. This signature material defines much of the interior palette, bringing harmony to the fluid layout while contrasting beautifully with the greenery outside.
Living Spaces Designed for Connection
The layout of DR Residence was crafted to foster togetherness without sacrificing privacy. The social areas flow seamlessly, allowing the family to entertain and gather with ease. At the same time, the six suites in the private wing remain isolated from the main zones, ensuring flexibility for guests and intimate family moments.
The kitchen reflects a hotel-level approach to functionality—equipped with professional-grade appliances, multiple stoves, and a refrigerated counter. It supports the family’s love for hosting large gatherings while maintaining an atmosphere of elegance and order.
A Master Suite Rooted in Comfort
The master suite stands as one of the home’s most tranquil spaces. Entered through a vestibule that doubles as a small home office, the suite unfolds into a spacious bedroom complete with a sitting area, fireplace, and expansive garden views. A walk-in closet connects seamlessly to a spa-like bathroom featuring an indoor vertical garden and thoughtfully defined bathing and dressing zones. The result is a private retreat that captures the home’s essence—luxury rooted in nature.
A Celebration of Brazilian Design
Throughout DR Residence, the furnishings express a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and heritage. Iconic pieces by Brazilian masters such as Sergio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin, Jaqueline Terpins, Etel Carmona, and Carlos Motta take center stage, alongside international classics like Paola Lenti’s outdoor furniture and Hans Wegner’s Circle Chair.
The interiors are further enriched by antique finds—a wicker armchair, Loop Chairs from Loja Teo, and restored European trunks by Arnaldo Danemberg—blending modern sensibility with historical depth. Artworks by Mira Schendel and José Bechara punctuate the spaces, adding layers of cultural resonance.
The Garden as Living Art
Collaborating closely with the landscaping team, the architects treated the garden as an extension of the home. Beyond aesthetics, the greenery plays contemplative and even medicinal roles. Openings strategically placed throughout the house draw light, air, and nature inward, creating a seamless relationship between the interior and exterior.
Harmony, Heritage, and Humanity
More than a luxury residence, DR Residence is a study in balance—between family life and solitude, modern design and timeless craftsmanship, interior warmth and natural freshness. Through its thoughtful design and carefully curated details, Nildo José transforms architecture into a living expression of Brazilian elegance and emotional connection.
