The Lane Cove House is a 150 sqm addition and renovation to turn an existing double brick cottage facing the Lane Cove National Park in Sydney Metro into a modern family home. Despite the complicated sloping block we have designed a spatial concept split in levels that brought light and breeze into all rooms of the house and connect the living spaces to the garden.
The bespoke staircase made of steel adorned with wooden treads and handrail sits at the junction of the original house and the new extension: this beautifully-designed architectural element, the ethereal chandelier by Vibia and the big windows facing the internal garden welcome the visitors and accompany them from the entrance space to the upper levels.
It is in the ensuite, master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe that the Lane Cove project’s approach to materials and details shines most strongly, due in part to the bushfire restrictions and the size of the block: the light coming from the small terrace penetrates deep into the space giving emphasis to compelling design, innovation and quality. The architectural finishes perfectly complement the made to measure Italian furniture and accessories designed by us and imported directly from the Italian manufacturers.
Before entering the heart of the extension, the mid levels offer the chance to appreciate the secluded small garden that creates a visual connection between the powder room and the office. These two small spaces accommodate the quintessence of the Italian furniture where the beauty lies into the simplicity.
As if by magic, the elegant and versatile design shows itself in the open environment that hosts the kitchen, dining and living rooms. The soaring plane of the raked wooden ceiling creates a heightened sense of openness and lightness in contrast; the polished concrete floor and off-form concrete architectural details contribute to a sense of specificity to the whole space with the incomparable elegance; the living and kitchen areas become outdoor spaces when the doors are fully opened and make the landscape an integrated part of the house.
