Starting with a vacant lot with a very steep down-slope from the street, the design of the Car Park house places the carport on the roof with the residence below. In addition to being a dramatic shift of expectations, it is also a logical response to the building code which requires parking for two vehicles.
Our approach to design is started by the specific and inherent problems of each project. We consider all the variables involved that will shape, influence, and generate an intelligent design. We believe that every project is different, even if it is the same building type. If we are designing two houses at the same time they would be two distinct designs; even though the buildings have the same use, the lot, site conditions, orientation, building limitations and persons using the houses are different. We do not approach a project with a preconceived style, material or aesthetic, we are not practicing to place our signature on a site or a stamp on a place at a certain time. It doesn’t matter who we are…we are Anonymous Architects.

Located in Los Angeles, the Crane House is a project that includes two twin houses designed by Anonymous Architects. Because of the small lot size (approx. 2,000 sq.ft each) the footprint of each house was very limited. To overcome such a limited buildable area we conceived of adding bay windows which project out from the building envelope. […]
