House in Crato (Casa no Crato) was designed for a couple who loves nature and silence and that was looking for a retreat place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
House in Crato (Casa no Crato) was designed for a couple who loves nature and silence and that was looking for a retreat place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The project is located in Marvila, one of the oldest industrial and working-class areas in Lisbon, a district that, while not being fully integrated into the city, ended up belonging to it integrally, undergoing a process of urban regeneration, awaited for decades.
Inside a white box of 7.6 x 3.9 x 2.55m, three differently configured yellow objects are individually placed. As an immediate consequence, one´s physical experience of the previously empty white box has been dramatically altered.
The building in question has its access made by two streets at different levels, the main access being through Rua do Corpo Santo and the secondary through Rua do Ferragial, which is at a height of 7 meters.
Villa GK was built by request of a private client, who was looking to renovate his old Algarvian villa. Result of this intervention is a minimalist contemporary house which responds to the owners view on quality of life, privacy and sustainable living.
