The exterior of this contemporary mountain home is clad in cedar siding, which dissolves into screens to create pattern and depth at the building entry points. Bonderized steel panels are used to articulate additions and subtractions to the building form.
Built on the slope of Mount Shefford, the residence bridges an aerial view on one side and an ascending, rugged topography, populated by rocks and maples, on the other. The initial idea for this project was to merge with the mountain, to nestle into the terrain until it becomes one with the residence.
The Schultz house is a primary single-family residence of approximately 3900 sf that was designed for an active couple in Vail, Colorado. Having previously designed a renovation to the owner’s successful clothing shop in Minturn, the couple returned to Blueline Architects for the design of their new home.

The site is a pristine forested natural landscape, entered from the north. A significant challenge was to minimize impact on the sensitive site and accommodate the gable roofs required by design guidelines.

Conceived to be smartly efficient and compact in plan, these ski-in/ski-out homes are designed around social spaces that take advantage of breathtaking views to the ski slopes and Carson Range beyond.
