The client requested that the house be both “closed” to ensure privacy and “open” to the garden. The site is a flagpole-shaped lot that was subdivided from his parents’ land.
Magri Williams has renovated and extended a family house in South London. The project was designed to be completed in two stages. Firstly a full house renovation; and secondly, and a year after the completion of the previous stage, a side extension.
Originally built in 1935, this house belonged to one of the founders of Bitzaron, a small town off the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean. The property is set amongst luscious green fields, orange orchards as well as a striking cactus garden.
The commission consisted of a mountain refuge on a wooded terrain in the town of Malalcahuello, near the Corralco ski center, AraucanÃa region, southern Chile.
Our design is a homage to the old Victorian house. The pitched roof is inspired by the roofline of the old building while the bricks are reclaimed from the demolition of the sidewall.
The house is located in the parish of Perucho, in the Metropolitan District of Quito. It seeks to be a refuge from urban life that allows its owner to connect with nature, as it is located in a rural environment surrounded by mountains and vegetation.
