About Toni Yli-Suvanto Architects
Toni Yli-Suvanto received Diploma in Architecture in 1999 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zürich in Switzerland, and before establishing his own practice he worked in several internationally recognized architectural practices in Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The current office was established when Toni Yli-Suvanto relocated his Studio from London to Helsinki in 2007. The practice designs healthy and inspiring built environment, which promotes wellbeing, social cohesion and collaboration. In this context, the company is particularly interested in finding long lasting design solutions, which aim for environmental neutrality and are economically viable.
Comprehensive services from preliminary consultation to construction documentation are provided for building design and urban planning projects. A strong emphasis is given to a critical multidisciplinary design process, in order to recognize the unique opportunities of each project and to meet the client’s brief and requirements successfully.
Sustainable design is seen as a result of successful fusion of economic, social and environmental qualities into a design solution with adequate flexibility and viability for future changes. The holistic approach provides the building with long lasting value and integrated qualities aim to create a cycle of positive influence on individual, society, environment and nature.
The Toni Yli-Suvanto Architects works actively to develop and advance the building industry in the field of timber construction. Innovative design technology is integrated into all stages of the design process for budget and quality control, coordination and communication and for the purposes of greater environmental understanding.
The Toni Yli-Suvanto Architects has won several awards in international design competitions for its particularly sustainable and innovative design solutions in Europe, Far East and USA. In connection with sustainable design, works of the practice have been published in international architectural publications and media in more than 40 countries in Europe, Americas, Asia and Australasia. The company received Architect of the Year award in Britain in 2016, and an invitation to exhibit its works in connection with Architectural Biennale 2020 in Venice.

The building is the centre of social activities during the warm seasons of the year. Cooking and dining takes place in the unheated main space, dominated by generous views towards the Nordic lake landscape, and towards the midnight sun.
