Located in Brussels’s Anderlecht borough, this narrow townhouse originally contained multiple nurseries and a tiny garden, yet boasted a rare rear vista opening onto the 19th-century Old Veterinary School.
Pocket Laneway House rises up and over a carport, clad in shiny corrugated galvalume and propped partly by a V-configured steel column on helical piers. By minimizing ground contact, the design preserves the root health of a mature maple tree on this constrained Toronto site, giving the structure a treehouse-like presence.

In the 1990s, Marc and Ann purchased a turnkey farmhouse-style home in the Pajottenland, where their two daughters would grow up. Both Marc and Ann work in the social sector, and they hoped to grow old in this house. However, over time, the home’s original connection to the surrounding hilly landscape faded.
