Office S&M were approached by two graphic designers to renovate their Edwardian house in Hackney. The design draws upon the owner’s belief in the power of graphics and their love of Art Deco forms.

Office S&M is an architecture and design studio co-founded by Catrina Stewart and Hugh McEwen.
Office S&M’s work explores the re-framing and re-appropriation of architectural styles and materials, in order to challenge preconceptions and open up new ways of solving problems. Driven by the desire to celebrate the materiality, colour and richness in the detail of the everyday, our designs are generated by narratives and often encourage a response from the public.
We focus on creating personal and highly individual designs for our clients. We work on architectural projects with a range of scales in the public and private sector. We are committed to engaging with our clients, the public and the context of our projects.

Mo-tel House is a remodelling of the lower ground floor of a Victorian townhouse in Islington, London, for a young family of four.
Child Friendly House in Ealing, London / Office S&M
A family in Ealing, with three children, commissioned Office S&M to refurbish their house. We created a child-friendly house in the broadest sense of the word, adding curves to the walls, a playful snakes-and-ladders bannister to the new room, and an arched window for each child.
