Central House, designed by Neil Architecture, stands as a contemporary family home nestled within the native bushland of Nunawading. The design purposefully challenges the traditional suburban brick veneer style, introducing a series of modestly scaled rectilinear forms that redefine the neighborhood aesthetic.
The Nova residence is approximately 3300 sf and is built from cast in place concrete, steel, glass, stone and natural wood siding. The narrow wooded site is about 5 acres and has a steep cross slope from the north east corner to the south west corner.

The architectural concept is based on the site: the building has a closed rear towards the North and East where the neighboring houses are, and it opens to the South and West, towards a natural forest.
The Client has named this house “Cooinda” – an indigenous word meaning “a happy place”. It is an apt name for this contemporary beach house for a large and enthusiastic extended family on beautiful Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville, North Queensland.
