Montalba Architects completed construction on Founding Principal David Montalba’s personal residence thoughtfully designed around a vertical courtyard concept.
The existing building is a relatively compact Anglo-Italianate townhouse circa 1860, and a three-story extension was added to expand the living space.
The floor plan of the home is elongated, as JUMA has a soft spot for long-drawn-out and low forms. Even the children’s bedrooms are located on the ground floor.
We sensitively extended into the rear garden to create a new light-filled playroom at ground level and a suitably moody bar and cinema in the basement, as well as reorganising the existing plan of the three-storey home.
