Workplace Research & Design Studio returned to Wrocław to design the Energy Industry Company Office, a new IT department for a client they had already worked with in 2016. Unlike the previous headquarters, this office was located in a different building and needed to be completed quickly. The client envisioned earthy tones, abundant greenery, and an atmosphere inspired by Scandinavian design.
Concept and Design Approach
Designers Olga Szadkowska, Małgorzata Romanowicz, and Daria Żarnoch set out to create an environment that prioritized comfort, ergonomics, and employee well-being. Drawing on Workplace’s latest research into neuroinclusive workspaces, they developed solutions that would support productivity while enhancing the sensory experience of users.
Acoustic quality and natural light were key considerations. Strategically placed glazing allowed daylight to penetrate deep into the office. In addition, the use of varied textures in carefully chosen materials was intended to stimulate the senses and support brain regeneration—an approach that ultimately improved concentration and creativity.
Implementation and Collaboration
The project brought together multiple companies, including Projekt Rośliny, Trilux, Creo Concept, Zero Waste Design, Wandtke Meble, Ultranet, Bakata, Kinnarps, Ecophon, and Hunter Douglas. Ecological responsibility guided every stage of the process. Materials such as recycled carpets without bituminous backing and PET felt for walls and ceilings were used, reducing the project’s environmental impact.
The result was a biophilic environment where office greenery merged with outdoor plants, creating a jungle-like atmosphere. Every detail supported the client’s goal of providing employees with a harmonious workplace that balanced functionality and aesthetics.
A Workplace that Benefits All
The outcome of the Energy Industry Company Office design exceeded expectations. Employees praised the new office, calling it the “nicest office they have seen.” Thanks to its location near the previous headquarters, the transition was smooth and free of disruptions.
By aligning employee needs with ecological principles and business goals, Workplace delivered a sustainable, thoughtfully designed space. Ultimately, the Energy Industry Company Office proves how research-based design can create an environment that supports people, fosters productivity, and strengthens workplace culture.
