Retaining the optimistic façade and the generosity of the original dwelling, Templeton has added to the simple rectilinear form while exploring the decorative possibilities of brick construction commonly found in the architecture of the Art Deco movement.
Templeton Architecture
Based in the heart of Melbourne, Templeton Architecture is a design-focused architecture practice founded in 2004. The studio’s work includes architecture and interior design projects, with a particular focus on residential housing. The studio principal, Emma Templeton, brings more than fifteen years of design experience from high profile projects around Australia.
The essence of our work is found in its timeless restraint and refinement. Our consideration for the unique qualities of each site and our preoccupation of proportion, light, colour, surface and junction combined with a respect for history create rigorously resolved design outcomes.
Although we have a recognizable architectural language, we celebrate that no project, client or site is the same. We love the process of architecture, the varied nature of the tasks involved and the joy found in delivering a quality project.

Matilda House is an Intimate Weekend Getaway Sunk Deep into the Australian Bushland
In the seemingly remote, granite hills of this northeast Victorian farm, Templeton was commissioned to create a weekend getaway. The Matilda house is situated on the same site that our client spent his childhood and is therefore layered with sentiment.
