We transformed the original dark wood paneling and floors of this historic Park Slope townhome into an open and bright space for a young family.
Upon purchasing this twenty-five-foot-wide brownstone in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, the Owners were charmed by some of the house’s existing historic details, but knew some updates and repairs would be necessary to fit the needs and lifestyle of their then family of three.
78 Third Place–the first Passive House Plus built in the United States–included a rehabilitation of a townhouse built in the early 1900’s. Revitalized by New York-based studio, Baxt Ingui the work respected the original historical architecture of the main building and restoration of the front façade
The owner of this home envisioned a beautiful but comfortable single family home that could last for generations and facilitate their busy lifestyle. They wanted open spaces that connected and communicated well with each other where the interior and exterior spaces flowed effortlessly and also provided for elevator access to each level including the roof.
The design of this house is exciting in many ways. It is Manhattan’s first Certified Passive House, Certified LEED for Home Platinum and it is in a NYC Landmark district.
