The Jaggar House was orientated to pick up the view of the harbour and make the most of the sun. The building is essentially in three levels.
The overall feeling of the three-storey residence in Armadale is lightness – almost an ethereal floating quality created by the sun refracting over the granite façade. This is a contradiction to the reality of the 260 tons of granite which make up the building’s skin.
After a decade or so of owning a coastal holiday house a few houses back with limited views, the clients, an Auckland family of five, decided to take the plunge and when one of the last beachfront sites became available they bought it and set about designing a house for their lifestyle.
