The Ranch Mine was born out of a seven‑month odyssey across Arizona in 2009, when founders Cavin Costello and Claire sought to uncover the state’s authentic spirit. Everywhere they traveled, they encountered tales of pioneers—ranchers and miners whose grit and vision forged new opportunities in the rugged Southwest. By adopting “The Ranch Mine,” the studio pays tribute to these trailblazers and embraces their legacy of exploration, designing spaces that inspire a similar leap into possibilities beyond the present.
After earning his Master’s in Architecture, Cavin moved sight‑unseen to Phoenix, where he met Claire, a native with a shared passion for shaping the built environment. Undeterred by an uncertain economy, they tackled a major home renovation together, laying the groundwork for projects like the First Phoenix Green Construction Code and custom residences for visionary developers. Their pioneering ethos has since garnered national recognition—2019 HGTV Designer of the Year for “Red Rocks,” a “Future of Architecture” honor from the AIA, features on the NBC Today Show and HGTV, and coverage in leading industry publications—driving The Ranch Mine forward as a beacon for inspired, boundary‑pushing design.
