Located in the heart of Dublin’s historic Liberties neighbourhood, Liberties House redefines urban living through design that celebrates both heritage and modernity. Conceived by Concrete Amsterdam, the project transforms a large co-living development of 371 apartments into a vibrant, connected community. Blending history, craftsmanship, and contemporary comfort, it captures the free-spirited essence of The Liberties while offering a new model for collective urban life.

History Meets Design

The Liberties has always been a place of independence and creativity, known for its artisans, breweries, and cultural resilience. The design of Liberties House pays homage to this legacy by weaving historical textures into a forward-looking environment. Murals, textiles, and crafted materials echo the neighbourhood’s industrial past, while contemporary furniture and warm lighting create a sense of comfort and sophistication.

Concrete Amsterdam approached the project as both an homage and an evolution—translating the area’s character into interiors that feel authentic, social, and full of life. Each space balances raw and refined elements, reflecting the dynamic identity of The Liberties: bold, creative, and welcoming.

Thoughtful Apartments

At the core of Liberties House lies the belief that compact living can still feel generous. Each apartment—ranging from 17 to 35 square meters—uses every inch intelligently. A continuous built-in cabinet integrates key functions like wardrobe, pantry, storage, and even the bedroom entrance, acting as an organizing spine that structures the room. This smart layout ensures comfort and privacy while maintaining visual openness.

The result is a home that feels refined, complete, and adaptable. Light materials, soft textures, and natural finishes create calm interiors where residents can retreat from the energy of the city. Despite their small footprint, the apartments express a sense of dignity and freedom—an urban reflection of The Liberties’ independent spirit.

A Connected Way of Living

Beyond private units, Liberties House is designed to foster community. Shared spaces form the social heart of the building, emphasizing interaction, creativity, and well-being. Rather than isolating functions, the architects envisioned an open, multi-level landscape where people naturally connect.

Subtle height changes, structural columns, and existing walls define zones without barriers, while vibrant murals and tapestries by Dublin-based artists Sean Atmos and Rachel Tuffy bring color and local identity to the interiors. The result is a sequence of interconnected spaces that support every rhythm of daily life—from quiet work to lively gatherings.

Residents can move fluidly between the welcome lounge, library, stage area, shared kitchen, event lounges, game room, cinema, gym, and yoga studio. Cozy seating booths and high-backed sofas offer privacy, while communal islands and open living zones encourage conversation and collaboration. This spatial layering allows each resident to choose how to live, work, or unwind—alone or together.

A Modern Dublin Community

Ultimately, Liberties House stands as a reflection of Dublin itself: grounded in history, creative in spirit, and welcoming to all. Through thoughtful design and community-driven planning, Concrete Amsterdam has created more than a co-living space—it has built a living network of connections, rooted in the character of The Liberties and designed for the rhythms of modern urban life.
