About Nicole England

“We always used to talk about architecture around the dinner table when I was growing up. I found it incredibly boring at the time. The photography of people was my passion, Robert Frank and Richard Avedon my inspiration. But with hindsight, it seems only natural that those family conversations would rub off and that the very places where people live and work would become important for me to explore.”

Nicole England has been exploring the built form, and the way spaces are used in her career, for almost 10 years. She captures on film what is often ignored by other photographers, details that embellish each frame. She is also acutely aware of placing the viewer in a space, making them feel as though they’re exploring each room rather than being outsiders. “I know when a shot feels right. It captures the essence of that space, whether or not people are within the frame.” She not only brings a clarity to each image, but as importantly, a ‘voice’ that captures as much the owners or clients who inhabit these unique spaces.

Her latest book Resident Dog, incredible homes and dogs that live there, published by Thames & Hudson, not only reflects her fine eye for detailing, but as importantly, the joy that dogs bring to a home.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Nicole’s images have graced the glossy pages of magazines worldwide including; Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Domus, Wallpaper, Frame, Vogue Living, Belle, House & Garden, Artichoke, Inside, Indesign
