The Glass Farmhouse is located on a unique point lot, surrounded by water on all sides, and is just 45 minutes from downtown Birmingham on Smith Lake. The lakefront property came with a lot of topographical challenges.
Set on 100 acres in the Sierra Foothills, the Auburn House embodies the simple, casual and hardy spirit of a modern farmhouse. Through its orientation, sustainable systems and material palette, the home embodies the pastoral and inspiring landscape of lakes, blue oaks, manzanitas and grasses.
The original Mountain Brook house was designed in 1963 by Fritz Woehle, FAIA, a local Birmingham architect known for his expressive modern design. Like many of Fritz’ projects, it is specific to the client and responds directly to the surrounding context.
