Barretts Grove apartment building is strategically nestled within a diverse Victorian streetscape in London, characterized by two-storey brick terraced houses, a towering red-gabled LCC school, and a rubble-walled church.
A 1960 vintage 5-story office building, situated adjacent to the Wheaton Metrorail station, is adapted and extended to create a new 12-story, 194-unit apartment building. The project was completed recently by Bonstra Haresign Architects. Its mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units, along with two levels of below-grade parking and ample rooftop amenities
A volume created from the urban needs after the emergence of a new avenue, changing the section of the street and the height of the buildings around it. That temporary space between what once was and what currently is planned, causes a hybrid street, changing and surprising.
