Turramurra Roofs, a project by Bastian Architecture, showcases a well-executed extension of an existing home in Turramurra. The project was able to move forward swiftly due to approval via a complying development certificate, bypassing the usual council approval process.
The design was inspired by the mid-century vernacular of not only the original part of the house but nearby beach houses as well, with their distinctive skillion roofs and simple but robust materials.
The Client has named this house “Cooinda” – an indigenous word meaning “a happy place”. It is an apt name for this contemporary beach house for a large and enthusiastic extended family on beautiful Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville, North Queensland.
