When you think of mountain cabin, modern and funk aren’t words that come to mind. So we jumped at the opportunity when our clients talked about their dream of a small, modern chalet. Words like alpine, funk, and gezellig drove the design direction.
On a large property in northwestern Connecticut, Deborah Berke Partners designed this modern house to frame a long view to the south. The Sackett Hill house offers numerous other physical and visual connections to the meadow outside and mountains beyond.
The De La Canardière residence was designed to enable a sister and brother to meet as a family on special occasions and to unwind in contact with nature. This project sprouted along the shores of a lake up in the Laurentians in a wooded area with a significantly consistent slope.
