A growing family needed a larger kitchen and wanted a family room that opened up the garden – there was, however, a large tree which sat directly next to the existing kitchen.
Designed for a flat in London’s Barbican Estate, the brief was to find space for a children’s bedroom within the existing layout of a one bedroom apartment, a workspace to enable working from home as well as to provide additional storage space.
The clients’ brief for Lawford Road was to create a minimalist, intelligent, and energy-efficient refurbishment of a Victorian property, forming a family home that would allow spaces to adapt over the years.
This project entailed the refurbishment and extension of neighbouring houses, the aim being to maximise the benefit of a single build with an agreed palette of materials, whilst offering variation between the two properties.
The key to the design… is hydraulic lime! Hence the name Lime House. To transform a 95 sq m derelict shop on a tiny site in a Conservation Area into a spacious four bedroom family house!
Our clients for Banana Tree House are from Germany and Jamaica, and their initial brief contained images of tropical plants, houses in Brazil and pictures exotic holidays.

Bromley Garden House is a single storey building with a large open area facing the garden, single bedroom at rear and minimal bathroom and a kitchenette.
