Located on the outskirts of Tokyo, Motorhead House is a mid-sized garage house designed for a self-established petrolhead (car-loving) man and his family.
Sarah and Nirit Frenkel, owners of the firm ‘Frenkel Architecture and Design,’ fulfilled their American dream.
The project is situated on land grant farm that has been a family home since the early 1960’s. 68 of the 78 acres is tillable and used for row crops.
Playing on combinations of solid volumes complemented by transparent voids, the Scenic View House uses a very simple material palette of brick, wood, and steel to stand apart from the landscape without drawing attention to itself.
The exterior’s spare composition of simple geometric forms reflects the efficient and rigorous planning of spaces contained within.
The goal was to create a space able to accommodate the hobbies but to keep certain continuity between them to create a fluid journey allowing constant interaction.
