Wol Residence was designed for a family that loves entertaining and spending time with close friends and family.
We were inspired by the 12,000+ Eichler Homes of Northern California that posed unreconstructed Modern homes built by the post-war developer Joseph Eichler. Accordingly, we turned our attention to the design of a contemporary modern home that could be built affordably and reproduced like so many of the builder plans available in an array of traditional idioms.
When we found this 800 square foot cabin in the California Sierras it had been well-loved since the early 1960s with most finishes and interior spaces left unchanged.
This residence is located in the foothills of Las Vegas, Nevada, and captures the true essence of desert architecture, while expressing high design and engineering.
Most people would have torn down this barn to make way for an entirely new structure, but our client had a strong vision. He was enchanted by its many quaint historical features such as the catwalk among the trusses, and the floor made from World War II Liberty Ship hatches.
This contemporary retreat set high atop Napa Valley’s Atlas Peak appellation, embodies modern sensibility and forward thinking in its living functionality, while connecting with its unique landscape.

The Copake Lake House engages this lakefront property through a series of framed volumetric compositions and material details that capture views to the water.
