Foksal Apartment by MOW.design represents the essence of understated sophistication and timeless harmony. Designed by Weronika Król and Marta Żebrowska-Wojczuk, the 130-square-meter residence occupies a historic 19th-century tenement house on Foksal Street, one of Warsaw’s most elegant addresses. The interior combines history and modernity with remarkable precision, resulting in a home that radiates calm, balance, and quiet luxury.
A Setting Rich in History
The location of the apartment plays a fundamental role in the design concept. Foksal Street is renowned for its architectural gems, and this revitalized townhouse stands as one of its crown jewels. The building has regained its former grandeur thanks to a careful restoration process that respected its original eclectic style. Carved supraports, marble floors, ornate portals, and hand-hewn balustrades recall the grace of the belle époque while providing a distinguished backdrop for contemporary living.
When approaching the project, the designers at MOW.design sought to preserve this heritage while ensuring a sense of lightness and modern comfort. Because the ceilings rise over four meters and southern light floods the rooms, the space naturally conveys openness and elegance.
The Subtle Art of Balance
The overall design relies on restraint and consistency. Foksal Apartment demonstrates that true sophistication emerges from subtle details rather than excess. The interplay of restored stucco ceilings with contemporary furniture highlights both tradition and innovation. Neutral tones of beige and gray blend with muted greens and anthracite, while natural stone, quartzite, and smoked oak enhance the depth and texture of the space.
By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern forms, the designers achieved an atmosphere that feels serene yet alive. Moreover, inspiration from Italian modernism is evident in the careful use of proportion, high-quality finishes, and attention to tactile materials. Every element works together to emphasize refinement rather than ornamentation.
A Dialogue Between Design and Art
Throughout the apartment, Italian furniture and Polish art coexist in harmony. Chandeliers by Patrizia Volpato and pendant lamps by Baxter cast soft light that accentuates the building’s height and decorative details. The living area features a sofa designed by Paola Navone, paired with sculptural coffee tables and a gold-accented bookcase. Meanwhile, a vibrant painting by Leon Tarasewicz introduces color and energy, bridging tradition and modern expression.
In the kitchen, SieMatic cabinetry merges precision with aesthetic restraint, complemented by Baxter furnishings and artwork by Jan Szancenbach. The master bedroom follows a calmer rhythm, where leather and fabric textures from Poltrona Frau combine with works by Henryk Musiałowicz and Igor Dobrowolski. Furthermore, the guest bedroom adopts a bolder character, animated by paintings from Justyna Jędrzejewska and Alfred Lenica, together with a striking uranium glass sculpture by Aleksandra Kujawska titled Memory.
Refinement in Every Detail
Attention to detail defines the entire project. The bathrooms, for example, showcase modular quartzite slabs arranged in irregular yet harmonious compositions. Champagne-gold fittings by Gessi, a bas-relief by Igor Dobrowolski, and Murano glass plafonds enhance the tactile richness of the space. Even the smallest features were selected with intention, ensuring continuity between aesthetics and function.
Because of its material palette and layered design, Foksal Apartment captures both history and innovation in a single narrative. The restoration of the original structure coexists seamlessly with contemporary craftsmanship, proving that luxury can be quiet and deeply personal.
A Dialogue Between Past and Present
Ultimately, Foksal Apartment by MOW.design illustrates how thoughtful design can unite contrasting worlds—heritage and modernity, simplicity and artistry, precision and emotion. Each element, from the choice of art to the curve of a chair, contributes to a coherent story about timeless beauty. As a result, the apartment stands not only as a luxurious residence but also as an architectural reflection of Warsaw’s evolving identity.
