For its owners—who returned to their homeland after decades in Los Angeles—this guesthouse is more than a home; it’s a vibrant space designed to host artists and friends from around the world.
Harmoniously Integrated with Nature
From the beginning, the architecture of House 10 seamlessly integrates with the natural topography and thriving vegetation. Timber cabins nestle carefully along the slope, artfully weaving through existing trees. Consequently, the materials and finishes mirror the surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious and sustainable design that feels both rooted and timeless. In addition, the design blurs the line between indoors and outdoors by incorporating open-air pathways that effortlessly connect the different spaces. This thoughtful approach ensures that the essence of nature permeates every corner of the guesthouse.
Inspired by Local Heritage and Modern Living
Moreover, House 10 draws inspiration from the region’s traditions, reinterpreting local architectural cues with a contemporary twist. The design pays homage to the stilted fishing huts along Comporta’s coast while embracing the expansive, serene landscapes of the Alentejo. As a result, the guesthouse seamlessly blends local heritage with modern living, offering an authentic experience that resonates with a diverse range of guests. In a dynamic interplay between the old and the new, each element of the design reinforces a deep connection to the cultural roots of Portugal while accommodating modern comforts.

Inside House 10, each guest accommodation is conceived as an individual hillside cabin that provides privacy and tranquility. Furthermore, an atelier dedicated to visiting artists nurtures the home’s creative spirit, offering a dedicated space for artistic expression and exploration. In addition, relaxation features such as areas for exercise, a sauna, and a shimmering pool invite guests to unwind and rejuvenate amidst the serene environment. At sunset, a carefully positioned fire pit facing the horizon becomes the centerpiece—a quiet gathering spot where guests can engage in meaningful conversation, reflection, and connection.
