The modern villa renovation by BDSD offers a breathtaking retreat surrounded by lakes, mountains, and forests. This 1,800m2 house, designed to serve as a vacation home for Mr. Lin’s family, provides an escape from the chaos of city life. The renovation harmoniously integrates the villa with its natural surroundings, promoting a leisurely and relaxed lifestyle.
A Natural Haven
Located about half an hour from the city, this villa area combines lakes, mountains, and forests to create stunning natural scenery. Inspired by poet William Wordsworth’s appreciation of nature’s healing power, the design reflects a deep connection to the environment. Mr. Lin envisioned his home as a sanctuary where the family can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature.
Thoughtful Design and Layout
The modern villa renovation focuses on the interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces. The entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms are all designed to enhance the human experience. The building renovation emphasizes creating seamless transitions between the inside and the outside, making the home a container for enjoying and observing nature.
Modern Aesthetics with Natural Harmony
The original façade, which had been vacant for a long time, received a modern update to blend with its surroundings. Simplified lines and shapes highlight the building’s volume and temperament. Rustic materials and colors unify the villa’s exterior, creating an orderly and coordinated entrance. Redesigned windows and a transparent foyer welcome light and garden views, enhancing the connection to the outdoors.
Inviting Courtyards
The villa features a side courtyard with a half-wall made of rubble, creating a natural and slightly wild atmosphere. Horizontal openings in the wall display the pool, inviting exploration. The courtyard near the inner lake embraces nature, creating a rich and friendly outdoor space. At night, warm lighting creates a cozy atmosphere, making the villa a perfect retreat.
Enjoying Nature in the Courtyard
Sunlight illuminates the courtyard, highlighting natural greenery and creating a peaceful environment. Mr. Lin’s family enjoys rare and serene holiday moments in this beautiful space. The villa’s expansive land area allows for harmonious living, following the rhythm of life. By day, the courtyard offers picturesque lake views; by night, it becomes a magical place with bonfires and starlit skies.
Versatile Outdoor Spaces
The villa’s courtyard features different areas for dining, campfires, swimming, and leisure. An L-shaped infinity pool visually connects to the lake, creating an open feel. The design of pedestrian walkways allows for easy navigation around the courtyard, connecting various functional areas.
Sculptural Interior Spaces
BDSD’s interior design contrasts with the natural environment, using simplicity, deep tones, and sculptural shapes. The black-themed space offers tranquility and security. Large windows bring natural light and outdoor views inside, balancing the dark interior. The curved staircase stands as a pure sculpture, guiding the gaze upward and enhancing the space’s elegance.
Cozy Living Areas
Descending into the living room, similar tones create a continuous space extending into the courtyard. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors in the dining area connect to the side courtyard, enhancing indoor-outdoor interaction. The Chinese kitchen features black and white elements, with a red sink adding a touch of art.
Comfortable Bedrooms
The bedroom space is designed for relaxation, using beige, light grey, and coffee colors for a calm atmosphere. The room includes areas for rest, clothing, and bathing, allowing complete relaxation. Soft fabrics and wooden touches enhance comfort, while a sofa creates a private area for unwinding.
Capturing Light and Views
The bedroom’s spacious terrace overlooks the lake, offering garden views and a beautiful lake vista. Attention to light capture ensures a refreshing experience every morning. Interacting with nature teaches us to appreciate life and find happiness in our surroundings. The villa serves as a shelter, a place to rejuvenate, and a home to return to time and again.
