About Anthrosite Architects
Anthrosite Architects are a Newcastle based design practice co-founded in 2010 by Mark Spence and Dana Hutchinson.
We might be described as the opposite of the “wonder kid”. We have trained in our profession, developed our skills and process. We continue to value listening and learning as we engage with our clients to create buildings that reflect the richness of their lives to date and the wonders and aspirations of their lives to come.
Our design approach places emphasis on a collaborative process and the critical response to people and place. We believe in enquiry and analysis. Understanding each project’s unique circumstances enables the process of procurement.

The design for this Hamilton courtyard house utilises the existing footprint of a pair of timber cottages linked by a shared driveway.
The design responded to a desire for a home that would allow a young family to have a seamless relationship with the native landscape of the site.
The form and programme that emerged from this project resulted from challenging site constraints, spatial limitations and a tight budget.
At Brass House, the design revolves around the Garden Room, the value of custom detailed, timber windows and doors, brickwork and in-situ concrete elements soften through native landscaping.
