Due to the enormous growth in students, Erasmus University needs additional teaching space that can be flexibly adapted to the way education is taught.
Paul de Ruiter (1962) founded his practice in 1994. He regularly lectures, writes articles for magazines, is part of the Programme Council of ARCAM and was until recently president of the foundation Living Daylights. Paul de Ruiter Architects is committed to various instances which pursue a sustainable society, is connected with The Green Case, participant of the Dutch Green Building Council, a member of the BNA, co-founder of the Transition Formula, founder of the DGBC Lab and sponsor of Vacancy of Business.

The office works on the assumption that through research and innovation, aesthetic buildings can be developed that is both sustainable and energy-efficient and healthy to stay at. The buildings are literally and figuratively energizing, and inspire and increase productivity: intelligent buildings that have an explicit influence on society.
Our office is located in a former steel workshop that we ourselves fully renovated and converted into a business complex in which several creative companies are located.

Villa HJ sits amid lush greenery in a rural area of reclaimed land close to the famous North Holland dunes. Given the setting, an objective to create a seamless overlap between indoor spaces and the surrounding countryside seemed fitting.
The villa is built from natural materials. Its entire structure and facade cladding are of wood, and the bulk of the remaining materials can be reused in the circular economy. The ground floor roof is covered in vegetation and the first floor roof is fitted with solar panels.
i29 interior architects worked on the interior of a eco-villa which was designed by Paul de Ruiter architects. A minimal approach to the materialisation and detailing of the building is a core value of both the interior and exterior design.
