Transforming a Historic Site
Located on a 17-acre former RV park and drive-in theater, Ofland Escalante has been reimagined into a venue that encourages guests to engage with nature. ANACAPA Architecture took on the challenge of preserving the site’s history while introducing modern comforts. The result is a place where visitors can feel connected to the natural environment around them.
Thoughtful Design for Natural Connection
The design focuses on blending with the high desert plateau’s horizontal lines. By limiting conditioned spaces to essential areas, the architects avoided unnecessary luxury and modernity. Instead, they aimed to create a warm, casual setting perfect for gatherings with friends and family. This approach ensures that the beauty of Utah’s landscape remains the star attraction.
Inviting Spaces to Enjoy Nature
Every built space at Ofland Escalante is designed to connect guests to the outdoors. The 7,200-square-foot clubhouse features a large patio under a 40-foot-deep canopy, providing plenty of natural light and shade. Made from naturally colored plaster, concrete, and weathering steel, the clubhouse blends seamlessly with the surroundings.
The property includes ten custom-designed 320-square-foot cabins with 11-foot-tall ceilings and glass walls. These cabins offer stunning views of Escalante’s landscape, making guests feel immersed in nature. Additionally, there are Airstream trailers, campsites, a food truck, a pool and hot tub, a shared 1,400-square-foot bathhouse with heated outdoor showers, and a 603-square-foot laundry building.
