The Horseshoe Bay house is a symbiotic blend of casual lake living with an over-arching aesthetic that is at once vernacular and sophisticated. Rough materials were reinvented and crafted to blend these notions. Site slope was a major factor in the overall design and site plan of the house.

In summary, from the client’s predetermined conventional organization, the Villarroel apartment proposes adding layers of complexity to the interior experience of the house, adding ambiguity to the classic labels of each room, as well as to the way they relate to each other, so that all this will eventually translate into greater spatial richness.

The Oaks Residence remains mysterious and de-objectified, and the landscape takes on the reading as the primary object of the project. The interior of the house develops along an unfolding spatial sequence that constantly orients and reorients the viewer to the site as one moves through the project, knitting the site and the house together.
