This project was a very thorough remodel of a mid-century house, originally designed by Portland architect William Fletcher. Before our clients purchased the home, it was owned by an artist and during our design process we kept in mind both the style of the house as well as the playful eye of its previous occupant.
The main challenge when reconstructing and extending the old family house into a holiday house was utilising the existing local advantages – natural and built environment. The plot is located in low-urbanized area by the local road Smilovci – Protopopinci, at the foot of Stara Planina Mountain, near Smilovci Lake.
Designed for an uncluttered and relaxed family life the Sticks and Stones Home layout is very simple and quite cartesian in plan except for one sinuous wall overhanging the driveway. Every room opens to a terrace or the garden through large glass doors that slide on ball bearings; one can step outside without noticing the thresholds.
Designed for a young family in the suburban area of Rondebosch, Cape Town, this house sits on an elongated site with views towards Devil’s Peak and The Back Table, which is the south-eastern edge of the iconic Table Mountain. The client’s brief called for a contemporary, open plan home that provides a relaxed lifestyle and takes advantage of the site and its views.
New York based studio General Assembly developed a total renovation project for an apartment in the Vinegar Hill neighbourhood. After trying and failing to find an apartment with character, the owners of this space opted to combine two fairly lifeless new development apartments and renovate to perfectly suit their style.
The task – to create a small apartment in the Vilnius Old Town. Interior design of this flat was dictated by renovated building. Historically, this building was built as a residential building in the heart of the Old Town in 1904, which was later transferred the owner of the Jesuit Order.
Architecture Architecture have completed a fit-out of one of the Cairo Studio Apartments – an exercise in creating a fully functional abode within a mere 24 sqm. Set within lush green communal gardens, the art deco Cairo Apartments are a landmark in Melbourne’s architectural heritage.
London White Lodge is part of a group of houses along the Upper Richmond Road better known as ‘Captains’ or ‘Nelson Houses’. Built in the 1860s, the name is attributed to the former landowner who developed the land, who married Francis Bolton, daughter of Thomas Nelson, 2nd Earl Nelson and also great niece of Admiral Horatio Nelson.
