Alan Tansey Photography

Alan Tansey was born in a rural part of Ohio between the heights of the Appalachians and the plains of the Midwest. He studied Architecture at Kent State University as an undergraduate and participated in the College of Architecture’s international studies program in Florence, Italy. Continuing his education in New York, he fulfilled his Master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation where he found himself intrigued by architectural photography. The mix of technical education, international study, conceptual design and photography have influenced much of Alan’s work today. In parallel with his design work Alan spends much time documenting architecture, interiors and installations in the photographic medium. His photographic work has been published in international magazines, journals, and numerous web publications.

This expansion of a three-story townhouse located in Park Slope responds to the row house typology and its typical direction of front to back. Intent on creating volumetric relationships, we decided to design an extension that links the main floor by both horizontally and vertically interlocking the space between the living areas
