Perched on a steep block with majestic harbour views, the clarity of the original Interwar cottage interiors had been muddled by decades of ad hoc alterations.
The redesign of a 27sqm studio apartment in Sydney’s, Woolloomooloo. The project is an exercise in modest, low cost, good quality design that can be afforded. The one-room apartment offers a proposal for future high-density urban living for one person families; the fastest growing demographic.
A slide-out bed on a lightweight perspex sled lives beneath the platform during the day. Modular storage seating and a flip-down table locked in place and supported by the bookends from the wall shelves above provide added flexibility in the use of space.
Conceptually, the A&M Houses have been an experiment in drawing a relationship and balance between a reduced footprint, comfortable living and maximised amenity. Inhabitants of this narrow beach house are encouraged to modify and adapt spaces to facilitate maximum amenity in both an environmental and social sense.
Set within an Art Deco building in Woollahra, the brief for the K Apartment was to be a reflection of the way the young professional couple would like to live their lives – open spaces that were generous and filled with light.
The apartment is designed to facilitate union with the Japanese 5S methodology. It was intended the design deliberately place importance on selecting, organising and caring for the belongings of the occupants.
For the Sustainable House Annandale, the intention was to achieve the best possible passive solar house for the site, whilst facilitating a more sustainable lifestyle for the client. The design not only maximises its passive design strategies including: solar design; evaporative cooling; natural ventilation

The project brief was centred about making the most of a glamorous city pad with an extraordinary
