Tom Blachford (born 1987) is an Australian photographer based in Melbourne. Blachford’s work focuses on Interiors, Architecture, Aerial and Fine Art photography.
Working with many of Australia’s most prominent and creative architects + designers Tom prides himself on translating space, texture and design intent into strong sets of images.
His graphic approach and cinematic aesthetic also been utilised by brands and agencies seeking evocative images to elevate their campaigns with the use of his signature style. The Two Angle house presents to the street as a modest single family home in scale with many of the older post war homes which exist in the area. It is only upon entry that the true scale of the house is revealed.
This addition to an existing Californian bungalow in Brunswick West was from the outset an exercise in ‘quality over quantity’. For the clients, a creative couple with a teenager, achieving ‘more space and lots of it’ was never the goal, rather, opting for considered, flexible spaces that would adapt with them as a family.
The Templestowe House is a nod to the tradition of the Italian Palazzo and Australian courtyard house, creating the constant connection between outdoor and indoor spaces.
Flexibility was also embedded in the brief for this project. With the idea of staying in this home for years to come, creating experiences was pivotal. The sliding glass and timber-battened screens, for example, fully retract to allow a seamless connection to the garden.
