A wide lot backing onto Ancaster Creek is the site for a intergenerational home for a family and their elderly parents. The house was conceived as two distinct residences, each formed into a linear bar containing the full program of a home.
Hibou House was designed for a young family that values connection – both with one another and with their friends and neighbours. The renovation thoughtfully updates an existing traditional 1950’s house for a more modern lifestyle – one that feels relaxed and comfortable yet easily adapted for entertaining.
The newly designed side split home stands distinguished in its immediate context. It integrates the landscape of the adjacent ravines, the structural form of the existing house, and the spatial requirements of its inhabitants in order to deliver a comprehensive, new home.
A Montreal concrete house built in the 1990s needed an update. The closed-in kitchen created a wall between the living spaces, and the decor, in saturated primary colours, produced a rather cold atmosphere.
