The Architect’s overriding intention for this modern two story family home centered on achieving an intimate connection between the ‘L’ shaped residence and its setting within a rolling hillside clearing.
The Nest House is a family home tucked away on a large bush block that combines an enviable combination of city views and an acreage lifestyle within the inner-city of Brisbane. The house draws its inspiration from modern roots, expressed through the juxtaposition of heavy vertical and light horizontal planes.
The terrain that slopes gently towards the sea is typical of Cap Ferret: a small forest of strawberry tree, yucca and pines. The challenge was to design a modern holiday house that would exist in harmony with its surrounding landscape and have a limited impact on the existing vegetation.

Designed for an uncluttered and relaxed family life the Sticks and Stones Home layout is very simple and quite cartesian in plan except for one sinuous wall overhanging the driveway. Every room opens to a terrace or the garden through large glass doors that slide on ball bearings; one can step outside without noticing the thresholds.
Designed for a young family in the suburban area of Rondebosch, Cape Town, this house sits on an elongated site with views towards Devil’s Peak and The Back Table, which is the south-eastern edge of the iconic Table Mountain. The client’s brief called for a contemporary, open plan home that provides a relaxed lifestyle and takes advantage of the site and its views.
