With direct access to Great Peconic Bay, this prefab beach house is designed to be a weekend retreat for a young Brooklyn family of four, and seasonal residence for the client’s Florida-based parents.
Broadway Loft is hMa’s redesign of their 1997 Holley Loft, for the same client. hMa’s original design for the space was featured in MoMA’s Un-Private House show in 1999, as a ‘state of the art’ interpretation of domestic design.
Saranin Artemiy: In the design, for oneself and the family, first of all, the task was to drop in at least some housing. The source of inspiration was materials, or rather, how to apply them – taking into account the budget.
Flexibility was also embedded in the brief for this project. With the idea of staying in this home for years to come, creating experiences was pivotal. The sliding glass and timber-battened screens, for example, fully retract to allow a seamless connection to the garden.
Canal House is a new build home inspired by the forms of the missions in southern Arizona on a left over, irregularly shaped vacant lot along the Arizona Canal. The house opens out from the interior spaces to courtyards shaded by the geometry and layout of the design that provide additional living areas at different times of day.

Moshav Kidron, built of large agricultural estates, is a level flat ground Moshav in which the sizes of the estates create quite great distances between residences. Olive vineyards are the main component of the estate on which this family house was planned and built.
