Brown & Brown has completed a new low energy home in a conservation area of Aberdeen, Scotland, turning an open plot into a private, leafy retreat that foregrounds craftsmanship and design.
Jim Stephenson is a UK-based architectural photographer and filmmaker whose work emphasizes human presence, atmosphere, and the lived experience of built spaces. His style tends toward documentary, capturing fleeting moments—light shifting, people moving, use and texture—that reveal more than just form.
He studied Architectural Technology and worked in practice in the UK and USA before fully embracing photography and film. His portfolio includes work by renowned architects like Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Kengo Kuma, and many others, and his images and films are regularly published in media such as The Architects’ Journal, Dezeen, The New York Times, and Architectural Review.

Our design is a homage to the old Victorian house. The pitched roof is inspired by the roofline of the old building while the bricks are reclaimed from the demolition of the sidewall.
Lila is a neurosurgeon and Duncan is a software engineer. Amidst the pandemic, they felt the need for a space that allows them to take a break from their daily family activities and retreat in their thoughts.
