When the architects started to build this project, they had no idea how it was going to end up looking. This has been a project designed day after day onsite, solving problems, creating an intense teamwork together with the client and the builders.
After the initial ideas, we did a deep reflection between what the Concretus house should be on its own, and what it would be because of the place in which it’s framed, an impressive natural landscape facing the sea with a balcony looking over the Mediterranean.
The owners of this dwelling wanted to build an ABATON house, but it was crucial for them from the very beginning to achieve the feeling of a “home”. This is why we thought it would be better to refurbish an existing house with a consolidated plan and garden that would later accommodate the contemporary architecture that we proposed.

The intervention in this big house consisted in redefining the major areas by giving them more width and light according to the lifestyle of the new owners. The original house had a classical distribution of spaces, separated according to their functions; with a large living room, a dining room, and a kitchen strictly separated.
In the scenic province of Cáceres, Ábaton Arquitectos took on the challenge of converting an abandoned stable into a modern, sustainable family home. Situated high on a hill, this remote location, far from city water or electrical infrastructure, required a thoughtful design approach that would respect and harmonize with the surrounding environment.
Removing unnecessary partitions, annexing circulation spaces to premises with a practical function and pursuing a direct visual connection with the exterior, are altogether strategies commonly employed when achieving a feeling of spaciousness is required within confined spaces.
Spanish studio Ábaton Arquitectos in collaboration with Batavia has developed a portable dwelling that offers high comfort and is easy to place in various locations. Portable house ÁPH80 has 27 square meters, is suitable for two people and is easy to transport.
