Responding to the beachfront environment of its headland site, the Bilgola Beach House is designed to withstand Australia’s dramatic climate conditions, where harsh sunlight, high winds and flooding are common.
The design of the Frank Macs bar was carefully considered to protect and enhance the highly significant heritage fabric. Techniques include using freestanding joinery, protective floor layers, and no fixings into the sandstone walls, carefully inserting the new design elements within the heritage framework.
We were the original architects for this house. It was one of our early projects. Our clients didn’t want to spend money and the building was never finished how we envisaged.
