Villa Alley by Dall Office offers a unique take on modern villa design by addressing two central challenges: organizing the internal layout and harmonizing the building with its natural surroundings.
Thoughtful Internal Layout
The design team focused on studying and analyzing the villa’s inner spaces. They introduced an alley that connects different parts of the villa, much like a traditional narrow passage. This alley starts on the lower level of the site and winds its way past key features such as the fountain, outdoor area, swimming pool, and living area until it reaches the second entrance. In doing so, the alley not only organizes the interior spaces but also shapes the overall form of the villa, creating a continuous flow throughout the project.
Connecting with Nature
Villa Alley also responds to its mountainous setting near Qalat, a stone village close to Shiraz. While traditional Iranian architecture often relies on brick to address the challenges of dry, hot climates, the design team looked to the unique conditions of mountainous and colder regions. They chose to work with stone in its natural form, emphasizing a strong connection with the rugged landscape. This choice not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also respects the local context and environmental conditions.
By addressing both the internal organization and the relationship with nature, Villa Alley demonstrates how careful planning and material selection can create a space that is both functional and deeply connected to its surroundings. The project serves as a strong example of how architecture can adapt traditional concepts to meet modern needs in challenging environments.
