A native Seattleite, John DeForest received architectural degrees from Yale and from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. A family home on the water, the owners wanted a house that would encourage creating and viewing art; connecting with nature, friends and family.
Overlooking Lake Washington, this 1931 Tudor home featured warm materials and several original details, but suffered from a cramped layout and an inadequate connection to its park-like lot overlooking Lake Washington.
A young couple asked DeForest to help create “a place to share with friends, a place for adventure and exploring, being a kid again, cooking together, experiencing nature and being part of something bigger.”
Located on a dramatic one-acre wooded site at the top of a bluff overlooking Puget Sound, this tranquil and surprising custom home was designed by DeForest Architects as a young family’s primary residence.
Located on the edge of Shevlin Park in Central Oregon, this 2,700 square foot residence was built as a modern weekend house from the urban bustle of Seattle and an eventual forever home for the owners.
Overlooking Union Bay, this 6,000 sf waterfront residence is both a practical family home and an elegant oasis of space and light. It is also a return to roots, as the new house rests on the site of the owner’s childhood home.
