The view of the Batman Bridge from the property was used as inspiration for the design. Situated on the Eastern banks of the Tamar River this house will be the pinnacle of sustainable living.
The design catalyst of the distinctive Batman Bridge is articulated in the innovative architectural form, sophisticated structural resolution and glazed elements that unequivocally provide the avant-garde resolve that would not have otherwise been possible.
The main living volumes that visually connect and engage with the magnificent vista and land-mark bridge are distinguishing design features that poetically respond to the client’s brief and rural context.
Environmentally responsive, the design reflects spatial quality and functional spaces with a materiality that is a key element internally and externally. From terra-firma, the form extends to express itself as a “projectile illusion” of the landmark bridge.
In-slab hydronic heating, the use of thermal mass in the internal brick walls and the use of glass maximises the solar passive energy thus creating an ideal living environment. A complicated design this house certainly pushed the construction team to a new level.
