The Family House in Mature Garden by Mimosa Architects is a serene retreat that harmoniously integrates architecture with nature. Located in Vraný, the residence sits within a lush, mature garden that slopes gently toward the nearby stream. The site’s natural topography shapes the entire concept, allowing the house to open southward toward both the garden and expansive views.
Architecture Shaped by the Terrain
Inside, the spatial organization follows the flow of the land. The central hall acts as the core of the home, linking all five levels in a continuous vertical movement that connects the interior with the surrounding garden. The lowest level serves as the main living area with direct access to a terrace, inviting daily contact with the outdoors. At the highest point, a study placed under the roof ridge offers a tranquil workspace filled with natural light.
Natural Materials and Simple Form
From the outside, the house maintains a modest rural appearance that fits seamlessly within its setting. The irregular placement of windows hints at the dynamic interior, reflecting the interplay of volumes and light. Mimosa Architects chose a restrained material palette—rough-sawn untreated wood for the exterior, oiled wood for the interiors, local stone, and black metal accents. These natural materials unify the design, emphasizing honesty and craftsmanship.
A Garden Preserved in Its Wild Beauty
The mature garden surrounding the house has been carefully preserved in its original state. Rather than reshaping it, the architects allowed nature to remain dominant, creating secluded corners and intimate pathways. From inside, each window frames a living landscape that changes with the seasons, strengthening the home’s connection to its environment.
