Greenbelt Residence by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture is a modest home located in Bouldin Creek. Perched on a cliff that backs onto a greenbelt, the house offers lovely views and natural privacy. The cantilevered design creates a strong connection between the indoors and the outdoors, making the residence a peaceful retreat.
A Strong Connection with Nature
The home sits delicately on a long, narrow site. Moreover, a generous side yard expands the outdoor living space. In addition, an infinity pool nestles within a preserved tree canopy and mimics the natural elevation change of the land. As a result, residents enjoy continuous views of nature, and the design helps to blend the house into its surroundings.
Unique Materials and Thoughtful Details
The design uses locally sourced, custom Leuders limestone brick. These bricks are crafted into gentle, unexpected curves and are strategically stacked at the front of the home. This stacking not only catches the eye but also acts as a screen that lets light stream into the interior. In addition, hemlock wood siding and large windows complement the stone. Consequently, every room offers beautiful views of the outdoors and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Balanced Light and Calm Interiors
The architects carefully planned the light quality throughout the home. Multiple sources of natural light enter each room from different angles. Therefore, harsh contrasts of light and shadow are reduced, and the interior remains calm at all times of the day. As a result, the overall atmosphere is soothing and balanced, making it easy for residents to relax and enjoy their space.
A Simple and Restrained Design
Overall, Greenbelt Residence is a study in simplicity and restraint. The design does not overwhelm the natural landscape; instead, it connects with the setting in a gentle way. Furthermore, unexpected details and experiences are woven into the project to surprise and delight its inhabitants. In short, this residence embraces nature while offering a peaceful, modern living experience that stands out in Bouldin Creek.
