EL EQUIPO CREATIVO brought its award-winning touch to Kimpton Los Monteros Hotel in Marbella, redesigning every public space to capture the essence of Andalusia through a contemporary yet locally rooted lens. Drawing on the region’s vibrant greenery, Mediterranean light, and artistic heritage—alongside ’70s architectural references—the studio crafted interiors and exteriors that feel both timeless and refreshingly modern.

Andalusian Inspiration Meets ’70s Flair

The designers looked first to Marbella’s lush landscape and storied cultural legacy. Consequently, they wove together shades of green, blue, and golden light to evoke sea, sky, and sunshine. Moreover, Picasso’s curves and bold ceramic craftsmanship informed the use of fluid forms and artisanal tile work. Meanwhile, subtle nods to the building’s original ’70s architecture—such as geometric patterns and light-filtering niches—ground the design in its historical context.

A Warm Welcome in the Lobby and Lounge

Upon entering, guests find themselves enveloped by a white Mediterranean backdrop punctuated by warm wood tones and colorful ’70s-inspired furnishings. Hand-painted murals—abstract yet distinctly Picasso-esque—adorn the walls, evoking an art collector’s private salon. Furthermore, movable wooden screens around the lounge and library create flexible zones, allowing both communal gatherings and quiet reflection.

Reviving the Andalusian Patio

The hotel’s original Andalusian patio received a lush makeover. First, architects simplified existing architectural elements to let the eye rest. Then they introduced abundant greenery and a sculptural water feature at the center, which becomes the focal point for relaxation. Additionally, a Mediterranean palette of stone and timber reinforces the seamless dialogue between indoors and out.

Pool Area: A Vintage, Chic Escape

Next, the pool deck unfolds as a multi-level landscape inspired by coastal topography. Warm white walls heighten the turquoise of the water, while terraced platforms support sun loungers and the Costa Club Pool Bar. There, terracotta tiles and latticework combine under a wooden pergola, casting dappled light patterns that recall authentic Mediterranean retreats.

Azul Bar: A Blue-Themed Icon

Azul Bar—an emblem of Marbella since 1962—now embraces a bold blue motif. A central bar clad in 3D ceramic tiles anchors the room, while large hand-painted murals in varying blue hues and feminine, Picasso-inspired forms animate intimate seating areas. As a result, the space effortlessly shifts from vibrant daytime socializing to refined evening soirees.

Jara Restaurant: Dining in a Garden

Jara Restaurant offers a modern take on Mediterranean cuisine within a garden-like setting. White walls contrast with green ceramic tiles and live plants, creating a fresh, airy atmosphere. Near the kitchen, tiles transition to traditional Andalusian patterns in blue and yellow, rooting the design in local craftsmanship. Lastly, angled walls carve out cozy dining nooks without compromising the overall sense of openness.

Escondido Rooftop: Retro-Glamour Sky Lounge

Escondido transforms the rooftop into a glamorous ’70s-inspired haven. Stepped platforms define distinct social zones, from a chic bar on the upper level—done in bold geometric patterns and terracotta hues—to a lower-level panoramic pool framed by retro tile motifs. During the day, guests relax in laid-back luxury; by night, the space evolves into an elevated lounge bathed in sunset hues.

Balancing Heritage and Contemporary Vision

Ultimately, EL EQUIPO CREATIVO’s redesign preserves the building’s original architectural qualities while infusing it with a fresh, contemporary identity. By harmonizing Andalusian tradition, midcentury artistry, and ’70s nostalgia, the project celebrates Marbella’s spirit and offers guests a refined yet welcoming experience.
