“I try not to think too much but rather keep my eyes open to the world and sure enough ideas pop up. This has been my creative approach for the past ten years and most often ideas come to me when I work my usual carpenter‘s job. When I see a piece of furniture, I know that there is more to it than meets the eye.”  says Nikos Tsoumanis,  the industrial design engineer.

He had the idea to cut and assemble on the wall some old chairs in order to achieve a construction that functions as a hanger and shelf. The chair legs are heading upwards allowing us to hang clothes, while the seat effectively owns the function of a shelf, where you can place the keys, wallet and other things. The designer has named the montage “wairs”. Looking at it, you have the impression that the chairs are sinking into the wall. The fact that the montage is made of used chairs, means that there is only a slight possibility to create the same model twice. The shown model presented in the photos, is an indicative one. Following this model, the chairs can be placed in various positions, in order to maximize the montage use. The idea is revalue the old things and to give them a new use. With an artistic and surreal character, the construction realized by Nikos Tsoumanis proves to be very useful.

The Gut Wagram estate in Lower Austria’s Weinviertel clearly shows that destilat’s design can go far beyond the interior: cladding and plaza design, path guidance and even the planting plan for the castle’s garden (in collaboration with a landscape designer) reflect Destilat’s distinctive style.
